In recognition of its importance, Pope Francis granted the temple the title of minor basilica in 2014. Consequently, this designation made it the only such site in Andorra. Following this, the sanctuary became part of the Marian Route, connecting it to four significant sanctuaries in Spain and France: El Pilar, Montserrat, Torreciudad, and Lourdes. Thus, Meritxell transformed into a hub for visitors seeking faith and spirituality.
