The Virga Jesse Basilica, located on Kapelstraat in Hasselt, Belgium, is a significant religious site known for housing the 14th-century statue of the Virga Jesse. On May 6, 1998, Pope John Paul II elevated the church to basilica status, further acknowledging its significance. This honor included the presentation of a conopeum, or papal umbrella, and a tintinnabulum, or bell, which added to its rich heritage. The basilica has also been a protected monument since 1980, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
