The Basilica and Royal Sanctuary of the Most Holy Virgin of the Head sits in the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park, 32 kilometers north of Andújar in Jaén, Spain. Known locally as Cerro del Cabezo, this sacred site holds deep religious importance.

Each year, pilgrims gather here to venerate the Virgin of the Head, patron saint of Andújar. Pope Pius X confirmed her title on March 18, 1909. Later, on November 27, 1959, Pope John XXIII extended her patronage to the entire Diocese of Jaén.

As devotion increased over time, the sanctuary gained greater recognition. For example, on October 25, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI granted Plenary Indulgences to pilgrims visiting the shrine. This important step led to a significant change.

Soon after, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments elevated the shrine to the status of a minor basilica. Cardinal Antonio Cañizares Llovera signed the official decree on April 21, 2010. During the annual pilgrimage Mass just days later, Bishop Ramón del Hoyo López publicly read the declaration.

In addition, the basilica marked another key moment on July 3, 2011, when church leaders consecrated a new altar. This event symbolized spiritual renewal for the community.
