Ely Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Ely, stands in the city of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. The cathedral also functions as the seat of the Bishop of Ely, supported by the suffragan Bishop of Huntingdon.

The cathedral traces its origins to the abbey founded in 672 by St Æthelthryth, also called Etheldreda. Builders constructed the earliest parts of the present building beginning in 1083. In 1109, church authorities granted it cathedral status. Before the Reformation, it honored St Etheldreda and St Peter. Afterward, it was refounded as the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Ely. As a result, the cathedral reflects both its ancient foundation and the religious transformations of medieval and early modern England.

Architecturally, Ely Cathedral impresses with its scale and craftsmanship. Originally, builders followed a Romanesque style. Later, they rebuilt the galilee porch, lady chapel, and choir in an exuberant Decorated Gothic style. Its most notable feature is the central octagonal tower with a lantern above. This design creates a unique internal space and dominates the surrounding landscape alongside the West Tower.
