The Basilica of St. Vitus, also known as Münster-Basilika St. Vitus, is a Catholic church in Mönchengladbach, Germany. Originally a Benedictine monastery, Pope Paul VI designated it as a Minor Basilica in 1973. A late 11th-century manuscript, likely created in the monastery’s scriptorium, details the abbey’s founding. It describes how a nobleman built a hilltop church long before the abbey existed.
