The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is the main church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia. It sits on 18th Street on the east side of Logan Square at the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Napoleon LeBrun designed the building, following plans by the Reverend Mariano Muller and the Reverend John Tornatore. The construction lasted from 1846 to 1864. After 1850, John Notman added the dome and Palladian facade. Inside, Constantino Brumidi decorated the walls and ceilings.

This cathedral is the largest Catholic church in Pennsylvania. In 1971, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cathedral hosted two Papal Masses: one by Pope John Paul II in 1979 and another by Pope Francis in 2015. These events show its importance in the Catholic Church. The building draws many visitors and worshippers each year.

The current rector is the Reverend Gerald Dennis Gill. He manages the cathedral’s daily activities and spiritual life. Archbishop Nelson J. Perez leads the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Together, they support the church community and keep traditions alive. The cathedral stands as a symbol of faith and history in Philadelphia. It continues to welcome people for worship, prayer, and cultural events.
