The Madonna del Sasso is a Marian Pontifical shrine in Orselina, a hillside village overlooking Locarno, Switzerland. The shrine was founded in response to a reported Marian apparition. On August 15, 1480, Bartolomeo de Ivrea, a Franciscan friar, claimed to see the Virgin Mary. As a result, this vision inspired the construction of a sacred site that has endured for centuries.
