LyonCathedral, also called the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, stands on Place Saint-Jean in central Lyon, France. It honors Saint John the Baptist and is the seat of the Archbishop of Lyon.
Construction began in 1180 on the site of a sixth-century church. Builders worked for nearly 300 years and finished it in 1476. Despite the long time, it keeps a consistent Gothic style.

It stands in Old Lyon, surrounded by historic streets. In 1998, UNESCO listed it, along with other sites in central Lyon, as a World Heritage site.
The cathedral remains an active place of worship. Visitors can admire the architecture, explore the interior, and enjoy the historic area around it. It connects Lyon’s past and present.
