Bazas Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Bazas) is a Roman Catholic church and a national monument in Bazas. Moreover, the cathedral serves as the main attraction of the town and reflects its religious and historical significance. Bazas hosted the Bishop of Bazas until the French Revolution. Afterward, authorities divided the diocese between Bordeaux, Agen, and Aire. As a result, the cathedral dominates the eastern side of the parvis and draws many visitors each year.

Builders constructed the cathedral mainly in the 13th and 14th centuries. Additionally, they followed the Gothic models of northern France but added unique features. The west front has three levels. First, the lower level contains three Gothic portals with original 13th-century sculptures. Second, the middle level displays a rose window built in 1537. Finally, the top level shows a Neoclassical gable added in 1723. Meanwhile, the north belfry dates to the 11th century and blends Romanesque and later architectural styles.

Inside, the cathedral has a long, narrow nave without a transept. Furthermore, craftsmen rebuilt the interior between 1583 and 1635 after Huguenot forces damaged it in 1561 during the Wars of Religion. The nave combines Gothic verticality with post-medieval restoration. Consequently, visitors admire its architectural harmony and historical depth.

UNESCO lists Bazas Cathedral as part of the World Heritage Sites along the Routes of Santiago de Compostela in France. Therefore, pilgrims come to honor Saint John the Baptist. Meanwhile, tourists explore the cathedral’s architecture, history, and spiritual atmosphere. Thus, the cathedral continues to symbolize Bazas’ cultural and religious identity.
