The Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul is located on Place Saint-Pierre in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique. It is the main cathedral of the Diocese of Nantes and the seat of the Bishop of Nantes. Its construction lasted 457 years, from 1434 to 1891, yet the building shows a consistent Gothic style. On July 18, 2020, an arson fire caused severe damage. Because of this, celebrations moved to the Chapel of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception to continue parish life safely.
Since August 11, 2020, Laurent Percerou has held the episcopal seat. He leads the diocese and oversees the cathedral’s restoration. Despite damage and setbacks, the cathedral remains a center of worship and a symbol of Nantes’ religious and cultural heritage.
