The Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady of Colmenar Viejo is a Gothic church in the town of Colmenar Viejo, Madrid. It also features strong Renaissance details. Construction began in the 15th century. The Mendoza family, local lords, supported the project. Juan Guas, architect of the Catholic Monarchs, led the early design.
Over time, builders added more artistic features. For example, the main altarpiece, built between 1563 and 1579, became a major highlight. It combines gilded, polychrome, and upholstered wood. However, the altar front uses white alabaster. The central image shows the Virgin Mary rising to heaven.
