However, on July 8, a miraculous event occurred. The sound of church bells rang through the valley, even though the old parish church had been abandoned. Intrigued and filled with hope, the townspeople rushed back. When they arrived, they saw a figure resembling a bishop atop the bell tower, ringing the bells with solemn intent. Yet, as they approached, the figure vanished into thin air. At that moment, the plague miraculously ceased.

Believing that Saint Nicholas of Bari had delivered them from death, the people vowed to honor him by building a grand church. Therefore, they did not hesitate. United by faith, the community began construction. Through determination and devotion, they eventually completed the basilica. Today, it stands as a lasting symbol of their gratitude.

Moreover, one of the original bells bears a handprint, known locally as the “Hand of San Nicolò.” Many believe the saint left the mark as a sign of his intervention.
