The Collégiale Notre-Dame of Dole, located in the eponymous city in Franche-Comté, is the main church of Dole. It is part of the Diocese of Saint-Claude and serves the Notre-Dame parish, within the Dole-town parish sector. The building was constructed in the 16th century, in a hybrid Gothic-Renaissance style, on the site of an earlier collegiate church dedicated to Notre-Dame. The latter passed on its name and status to the current building until 1790. Despite being elevated to the status of a minor basilica in 1951, the church continues to be traditionally called a “collégiale.”
This monument has been classified as a historic monument since 1910. This protection has allowed the preservation of its structure and decorations. The architecture of the collégiale combines Gothic elements in its vaults and Renaissance features in its façades. This fusion of styles marks an important transition in the art history of the region. Moreover, it reflects the architectural and religious evolution of the city of Dole.
Today, the Collégiale Notre-Dame is an active place of worship, but also a major historical site. Its influence extends beyond the religious domain, embodying an essential part of Dole’s heritage. It continues to captivate visitors with its grandeur and history. The collégiale thus represents a precious testimony to the past of the city and the region.
