The Church-Convent of Santa Teresa stands in Ávila, Spain. Built in the early 17th century, it sits on Saint Teresa of Jesus's birthplace. The Discalced Carmelites patronized its construction. It suffered damage, particularly in the 19th century. Restorations began in 1888 and 1982. On January 4, 1886, it became a National Monument. This designation equals the current Asset of Cultural Interest.
Building on hostile, humid soil posed challenges. Constant repairs followed, starting after architect Alonso de San José finished it around 1636. Religious architects commonly designed their order's buildings then.
The convent's layout is unusual. It faces north, not east. This places the church's head in Saint Teresa's room. The cloister and monastic quarters are to the north.
The church is Baroque. It follows the Carmelite plan: a single nave with side chapels. Unlike Jesuit designs, these chapels lack connecting doors. Its early 17th-century façade appears sober. Some decoration and evolving orders appear. A triple arcade provides access, like San José Convent. The main chapel holds a 17th-century altarpiece. On July 13, 2022, it became a minor basilica.
